Accident
We have a terrible accident yesterday. Jayden fell off from his baby cot !!! It happened yesterday morning when we just woke up. Like all other weekends, I've left Jayden in his cot to brush teeth with Jolyne. After we were done, I saw Jayden looking quite bored. So I gave him a few pieces of Lego blocks to play. After that, I went back to the loo to do my business, while Jolyne lied on our bed beside the baby cot. I heard Jayden throwing the blocks out of the cot, his favourite game. A few moments later, there was a loud thump, followed by Jayden shrill cries and Jolyne screaming for me. Startled, I rushed out of the loo. Imagine my shock to see Jayden on the floor face down! He was wailing on top of his voice, while the frightened me hugged and pat him and check for injuries. Hearing the commotion, KA rushed up. I told him what happened, and he immediately stop me from rubbing his head so hard in case there was any fracture, which may be worsened from my rubbing. We checked that there was no visible bruises and bleeding. But poor Jayden was obviously traumatized by the fall and still howled away inconsolably for the next half an hour.
I did queried Jolyne how did Jayden fell off as she was the only witness. She couldn't describe clearly, so we could only guess that he had stepped on the horizontal bar (on the cot's side door that can fold down) to look for his Lego blocks and fell off. Of course without delay, we lowered his bed to the lowest level so that the incident will not happen again.
It was my fault to leave him with Jolyne and assume that she could look after him (although she did on past occasions). It didn't occur to me that he could climb out, as Jolyne never did that at his age. Never did I imagine that a usually mild-temper and quiet baby can be as playful as his wilful sister. I still can't wade off the guilty feeling of being such a careless and negligent mother. It was a lesson learnt for me, never to make assumptions and take things for granted. I will never ever allow such a thing to happen again.
