A Brilliant Couple
I won myself free tickets from a contest by SSO to a chamber ensemble yesterday. Despite the heavy downpour that almost dampened our spirit, it was an evening well-spent. The concert at Victoria Concert Hall performed by a husband-and-wife duo, violinist Mira Wang and cellist Jan Vogler, was simply enchanting. Mira Wang's performance was wonderful - the sweet melody just flowed out of her smoothly and effortlessly. But it was Jan Volger's astounding display who took my breath away. It completely changed the impression I have of cello's deep and husky notes and who often playing second fiddler in an orchestra. I never imagine that it can, on its own, make music that is so rich, so expressive, so lively. Bravo, Jan Volger! I am very very impressed.
